Sometimes I see really ornate fixtures, like a faucet or something like that. It’s something that was probably hot in the ’70s, but it’s kitschy now, and I think would look cool in a modern space. Six new episodes are slated to premiere in early 2023, the network announced in a press release. Victoria also renovated the bathrooms, the main bedroom and the bedroom of the couple’s 15-year-old. She accented the largely white home with pops of green in the appliances and a built-in bookcase.
Denver’s “Married at First Sight” may have been the show’s most toxic season
The 1928 structure started out as a hospital designed by Eastern Columbia Building architect Claud Beelman; the metalwork above the entrance and the Art Deco detailing are actually quite elegant. But then Scientology came along with a whole lot of blue paint. The creepily clean, garishly Smurf-blue stronghold always seems to have its white blinds shut and its 16-foot-tall Scientology sign illuminated; the result feels straight out of 1984. For some homeowners, having an ugly house might deter them from hosting visitors. But on an HGTV show – which will soon spotlight Colorado – tacky, weird and unsightly dwellings are points of pride. There was also one house with this gorgeous red tub.

The alternating black granite and white marble facade looks like Beetlejuice laying on his side—in style-conscious L.A., horizontal stripes are a no-no. The contrasting strawberry-colored accents really put this blocky ‘80s beast over the edge. As its neighbords rapidly build upward, we're still anxiously awaiting a redesign for the L.A. The tinted entrance atriums are sunny and spacious from the inside, but from the street they look akin to Space Mountain built out of drab, sterile leftovers from a doctors office waiting room. Have fun staring at the faded aquamarine paneling on its backside. We’re sure the residential units in this Palms development are just lovely.
While beautiful houses are certainly easy on the eyes, ugly houses have their own allure, too. And the HGTV show “Ugliest House in America” is back to prove it on Season 5. A 2,000-square-foot, three-bedroom, two-bathroom house in Miami was crowned the Ugliest House of the Year for 2019, as decided by a HomeVestors Facebook poll in which members voted on the most impressive transformations. The house was rehabbed by real estate broker Rick Tobchi with a reno budget of over $100,000. This year’s theme was “Ugly in Paradise.” For weeks, viewers have joined Retta as she toured the wackiest, tackiest and least practical homes in vacation destinations. After choosing one finalist from each region, one house earned the title and a $150,000 renovation from Alison Victoria.
She then chooses winners from each region to compete as finalists. The one crowned the ugliest house in America receives a $150,000 renovation by designer Alison Victoria of HGTV’s “Windy City Rehab.” The transformation will be revealed in the finale. We’re talking indoor alligator pits, heart-shaped bathtubs and wallpaper on every surface imaginable. On the show’s latest season, which premieres April 22, comedian Retta travels across the country to visit homes that have been deemed particularly unsightly by their owners. At the end of the season, one house is named the homelist of all and receives a $150,000 renovation.

And they’re like, “Yeah, we’re not going.” It’s surprising how many people won’t go into a part of their house. I mean, there’s one home that’s like covered—covered in mirrors. There’s some parts of these homes that people are so afraid of that they literally won’t explore that part of the house. In another era, this boomerang-shaped building might’ve made our most beautiful list.
And, unfortunately for their children, sound travels. Season five, premiering on April 22, includes two Rocky Mountain residences in the towns of Sedalia and Jefferson where Retta visits what she calls “the fakest cowboy saloon of all time” and a home covered in shag carpet. That same home actually had a room that looked like a ’70s diner, which was probably their game room. And, you know, it was an old look, but if they they fixed up the space and redid the wallpaper, it would be gorgeous.
‘Ugliest House in America’ Will Return for a 3rd Season
The previous owner dedicated each room to a color and this bathroom had red carpeting, of course, but it also had this red tub with gold feet that were gorgeous. Curious to learn more, we spoke with Retta about the worst (and best) features she saw this season, plus what buyers might want to consider before purchasing an ugly house themselves. This movie theater-turned-shopping center once served as the unofficial Time Out Los Angeles visitor parking lot—say hello to fake Spider-Man and Jack Sparrow for us as you exit its humid, dark dungeon of a garage. But we don't have much fondness for its design; above ground, it looks like a B-movie spaceship primed for takeoff, with twin staircases anchoring it to the ground. What really gets us, though, is the rotunda’s excess of tile and glass blocks, which gives the complex all the charm of an indoor public pool. Sometimes these houses are old, and they can be unsafe.
From the outside, though, the building looks like a crude 3-D rendering that never had any tactile textures applied to it. It’s an unpalatable mix of medium rare red and creamsicle orange hoisted onto a silvery cylinder. Our newsletter hand-delivers the best bits to your inbox. And we had a point, I think it was in Season 3, where one of our cameramen was shooting and the railing behind him fell and crashed to the first floor. And I’m like, “How have you lived here? ” But I think, you can’t be scared of your home. You can’t have spaces you’ve never encountered because you’re scared to get somebody to go in there.
“Well let’s just say, been here 5 years Retta and embarrassment has happened,” Tammy explained, hinting that her daughter’s boyfriend overheard the couple being intimate. She added, “My daughter didn’t talk to me for a week.”The house also features unsightly Pecky Cypress panels throughout and mismatched flooring in the kitchen. There are also issues with space, lacking closets and a bathroom door. Throughout the show, Retta rates homes on their ugliness, functionality (or rather lack thereof) and the surprising elements she encounters.
