Somehow, the "wrong crowd" managed to infiltrate New York’s Soho House — a crowd of corporate suits. And the Soho House brand comprises more than its famously members-only clubs. Soho House owns restaurants all over the world (restaurants that anyone can go to), has a burgeoning e-commerce operation, and, over the past 25-plus years, has established its presence as a global hospitality brand. Holloway House is accessible to Soho House members through every house or local memberships. Bedrooms can be booked by Soho House members and Soho Friends and are also open to the public. Soho Friends is a new membership format that provides access to Soho House bedrooms, Studios, and benefits in other Soho House spaces.

Half an hour later, on the chilly rooftop garden of Salesforce Park, guests loaded up on sushi, sashimi and caviar at an all-you-can-eat buffet as servers made their way through the crowd with trays of uni-topped crostini and Wagyu skewers. We’re not suggesting that an exclusive membership can’t coexist with humility. That said, Soho House has yet to turn a profit after 27 years, reporting a loss of $82 million in the second quarter. Its shares, which began trading at $12 a year ago, closed at $5.99 Friday; the company is currently valued at $1.17 billion.

Other amenities include a sitting room for connecting and working, the Mandolin Taverna restaurant and bar, and drawing room for events and workshops. The artsy environment and curated space allows for people to admire views and work with inspiration. A short drive from Soho House’s original Los Angeles location, Soho House West Hollywood, new Holloway House occupies four floors and a rooftop on Holloway Drive off Santa Monica Boulevard. Like all Soho House properties, it offers a space for creatives to eat, drink, meet, and relax, combined with that special homey feel for which the brand has become famous.

The collection at Holloway House brings together a collection of artists, all 40 and under, and born, based or trained in LA. Tapping into the diversity of the Los Angeles art scene, the collection comprises artists of all backgrounds producing works across a range of media. The 34 bedrooms each feature a bespoke artwork by Dan Siman-Tov, Dominique Labaki or Elizabeth Ibarra. And finally, the rooftop is where you can relax on one of the daybeds, soak up the warm Los Angeles sun, and take in the stunning views with a cocktail in hand.

The new spot will include 34 bedrooms, a lounge, office spaces and a restaurant. “We’re excited to be able to provide rooms to people visiting West Hollywood. We’ve been asked for years by our guests for a place to stay with us in the area, but we wanted to find the right space,” Soho House CEO Nick Jones tells Variety. This house is IMPRESSIVE, with its amazing interior design, 20 floors and 360 views of Los Angeles.

What are the Soho House membership rules?

A launch party for SHO Club last month began with a hard-hat walk-through of the construction zone, with a stop inside the cavernous space that will house SHO Restaurant. Coggins, the Los Feliz author, initially joined the Britely when he needed a quiet and reliable place to write a book during the pandemic. But it soon became an integral part of his social life; he even spent his most recent birthday there. Demand has never been higher for Soho House, which opened its first location in London in 1995 and has grown to more than three dozen houses around the world — 20 of them since the beginning of 2018 — as well as co-working-only hubs and an interior decor retail brand. Meyers uses his membership three times a week, inviting nearly all of his clients as a way to ensure discretion and make them “feel special,” he said.

Meanwhile, on the east side, Hyatt and Relevant Group will open tommie Hollywood at 6516 Selma Ave., adjacent to Thompson Hollywood, in early December. The lobby will showcase works from artists Bradley Duncan, Bruce Rubenstein, Valerie Wilcox and Ellie Pitts. Steinberg Hart handled the architecture with Studio Collective responsible for the interior design. Tommie will also offer Hyatt’s first digital check-in service to allow guests to create a room key at a kiosk in the lobby. The members-only club will open Little House West Hollywood at 8465 Holloway Dr., formerly home to the Palihouse hotel, early next year.

How L.A. Chess Club is giving nerd culture a Gen Z makeover

In 1995, restaurateur Jones opened the first Soho House in London when a space above his modest French restaurant Café Boheme became available. The door to the three-story house was too small for a restaurant, Jones told design magazine Dezeen in 2016, but just the right size to form the entryway to a private club. West Hollywood is a veritable design mecca, home to a myriad of artists and creatives, more interior design stores than you can throw a measuring stick at, not to mention the Pacific Design Center, a complex packed with shops, studios and one-of-a-kind concept stores. The city is a match made in heaven for Soho House, known for its avant-garde interiors, bold color schemes and on-point material choices. Each bedroom features 1960s-inspired furniture, aged wooden floors, and woven tapestries made with fabric custom designed in Southern California.

Beds are upholstered with lush velvet or boucle, and accompanied by burl wood side tables and ceramic bedside lamps. Bathroom features include mosaic stone floors, hand-blown vanity lights, natural brass fixtures and, in some of the larger rooms, a dreamy empire bathtub. That panoramic view — best admired on the rooftop bar by the 50-foot pool and sun deck — comes at a price. If accepted, membership for access to the club, like all clubs, is $2,160 a year, while admission into all the clubs is $3,300 (except in Malibu, which requires a separate membership). Those under 27 years old receive a discount of $1,080 per house and $1,650 for all. There’s also a onetime registration fee of $550 (and $350 for those under 27).

It is no coincidence, then, that Soho House, the private members’ club favored by media and entertainment types, has opened a second house here. The third West Coast outpost of Soho House, called Soho Warehouse in downtown Los Angeles, offers a gym, bedrooms and — at long last — a rooftop pool. A membership committee, composed of club members, decides who is and isn’t granted access to each specific club. (So, it’s entirely subjective.) Kim Kardashian and the Real Housewives are in the same category as lawyers and hedge fund managers, as former membership director Tim Geary told the Hollywood Reporter — both lacking in the je ne sais quoi that deems one worthy of Soho House. The New York Soho House didn’t open in Soho, but in the Meatpacking District — a then-edgy neighborhood home to Sex and the City’s Samantha Jones, who crashed Soho House’s pool deck with a spurious membership in Season 6. The members-only social club concept caught on in New York, but not just among the young film and media industry players that defined the brand.

In fact, our painstaking curation led to Michelin making us the official hotel selection of their legendary MICHELIN Guide. Work environments can make or break you, the perfect co-working space awaits at Soho Works located in West Hollywood. With gorgeous meeting rooms, lounge areas, lofts and an inclusive communal kitchen this location is prime for collaboration and creativity. Grab a coffee from the kitchen  and work individually or with others in one of the work spaces, your best work is sure to come out of this experience. To keep the clubs young and, thus, hip, members under 27 get a 50 percent discount on the annual membership until they turn 30. Those who live in select Soho House-approved cities without an actual Soho House, like Aspen, Milan, and Tokyo, can purchase an every-club membership for $2,500.

Although Soho House restaurants are concentrated in the U.K., like the clubs, they are decidedly international (the Allis, a lounge and bar named after industrialist and philanthropist Charles Allis, only has locations in Istanbul and Chicago, for example). What sets Holloway House apart from its West Hollywood predecessor is that it also has bedrooms—34 in total—ranging in size from cozy to small, medium, big, and big accessible. Set across the middle three floors, the design of the rooms reflects the local landscape, history, and culture. Few cities are cooler, edgier or more creative than Los Angeles, and nowhere embodies this spirit more than West Hollywood.
